Looking for a way to add a special, interactive touch to your event?
Then the “Yukata Experience” is for you! Ideal for school/club cultural festivals, culture days, lectures on Japanese culture, themed events, birthday parties, and even weddings, the Yukata Experience will create unique and lasting memories for guests and leave them talking about it months later.
Yukata, a summer kimono made of a single layer of cotton, is one of the lightest and easiest to care for traditional Japanese garments, commonly worn by the Japanese for summer festivals and firework displays in the evenings. Although yukata is not usually worn over one’s clothing, the Yukata Experience will dress people in a yukata, complete with obi (the wide belt, tied in the back), over their clothes, to give them a sample of what it might be like to wear wafuku (Japanese traditional garments).
In addition to a selection of women’s yukata and a few men’s, the experience will come with a number of dressers appropriate to the size of the event (usually 2-3), yukata, himo (ties to keep the yukata closed), obi, and props/accessories for photo taking. Dressers are also knowledgeable about kimono and are happy to answer questions in addition to dressing others.
To help us provide you with the best experience possible, it would help us if a clothing rack and table were accessible. If not, we do have a clothing rack that we are able to bring. Depending on the site, we can also bring a clean carpet for dressing people on. These items are included in the base rate; we just need to be informed that they have to be brought.
Yukata Experience rates include transportation and the cost of cleaning and care of the yukata and obi. Please contact us for rates.
Coming soon: We’re currently shopping for more men’s yukata, as well as children’s yukata and accessories, so we hope to add those to the experience this year. Stay tuned!
